Jerrod and his wife LaVonne went to sleep in South-Central Los Angeles, worried like everyone else in their little world of poverty, crime and drugs. LaVonne, afraid she might be pregnant again. Jerrod was just worried about being able to pay the rent. As usual they weren't sleeping very well.
Suddenly awake and alert, awake and alert like he's never been before and feeling better than ever, Jerrod practically leaps out of his bed! He walks into his kitchen and looks at the clock on the stove, it reads: "3:33 a.m." And somehow, instinctually, he knows... his life is transformed, changed forever by this magical hour. Jerrod goes back to bed and sleeps like a baby. His fears and worries gone, he has an incredible experience in several dreams. He controls his dreams, he controls his destiny.
As morning dawns, as light fills their tiny apartment, the phone rings. The same phone that was supposed to be disconnected by now. "Jerrod, it's the phone..." LaVonne nudges. Her husband gets up, awake and ready for anything, he trots to the phone. It's an employer and the chance for work. The phone rings again and it's the bank: "it seems that we've made a mistake on your balance..." a nervous banker starts, he concludes by telling Jerrod that he now has enough in his account to pay all his bills, rent included for the next few months. Instant debt relief! Jerrod is cautiously optimistic, he isn't sure about telling LaVonne, maybe this isn't real, maybe it's a dream, maybe... "Sweetheart" he calls out before he can control himself, then he runs into the bedroom.
LaVonne is skeptical, LaVonne thinks her husband has finally lost all his senses, LaVonne thinks Jerrod is crazy! Then the phone rings again. "I'll get it" she offers. Jerrod just smiles knowing it to be more good news. "This is she..." LaVonne says. "Uh huh, yes, um... yes I did, ah, er of course I do!; she smiles broadly: "I do?" "Yes, of course, I'll be there" she starts to laugh as she says: "goodbye, um and er, um thank you!" Putting down the phone, she tells Jerrod: "Honey, honey, I got the job, the job with the government!" "See, see, I told you" he says. LaVonne gets a puzzled look on her face, then she says: "yeah, hey, but it's just a coincidence." Still, the phone kept bringing good news throughout the day, punctuated by the mail, by friends stopping by and more.
The entire day is a dream, a fantastic day-dream come to life! LaVonne finds out she is expecting, she is pregnant with Jerrod's baby... with all the other news of the day, she's also excited and happy. Jerrod goes for an interview at a law office and gets the job. Going to sleep that night... the world couldn't be more of an oyster for this couple. Their sex is outrageous, they share an intimacy long missing in their life. They kiss, they taste, they give themselves in total abandon. They collapse in each-other's arms, they collapse and fall asleep.
After an incredible sequence of dreams for both lovers, they suddenly awake. Jerrod hesitates for a moment, then he gets out of the bed and takes a look. It's 3:33 a.m. Jerrod is afraid of the consequences, he's superstitious at the moment. Going back to bed, he can't sleep, he tosses and turns, he turns and he tosses... eventually exhaustion takes its toll and he does fall unconscious.
Dawn fills the tiny apartment with light, Jerrod and LaVonne awaken. Jerrod looks at his wife, he gets out of bed and tries the phone... it's disconnected, out of service. He asks his love about "yesterday." "Huh?"; she asks with a shrug. "The jobs, the bank, the phone" he inquires. "What have you been drinking?"; she asks sarcastically with a nervous giggle. "I, I, I guess I was just dreamin'" Jerrod offers apologetically, sadly. He believed in a dream, he believed in a miracle... but even at 3:33 a.m., miracles don't happen in South Central L.A. and most people don't dream anymore.
